About the intolerance checks
Full body composition analysis
This analysis looks at the various components of your body such as fat levels, body water and muscle mass. When viewed together, the results will give you a better understanding of your overall health and any adjustments you could make to your diet and lifestyle that could make you healthier. The test will involve a safe electrical signal being sent through the body via pressure-contact electrodes.
Body and visceral fat %
Visceral fat is the fat that surrounds the vital organs on the trunk and stomach area of the body. A certain amount of fat in the body is healthy, however too much visceral fat can increase your risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
Total body water % and muscle mass
About 45-65% of a healthy person's weight should be water, and it's a vital part in helping you stay healthy. A good amount of muscle mass is important as muscles play an important role in helping the body to consume energy (calories).
Basal metabolic rate and metabolic age
The basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body requires to function at rest and gives a good indication of the speed of your metabolism. The speed of your metabolism is determined by many factors such as gender, age, muscle mass compared to body fat and the amount of physical activity undertaken on a regular basis. Your metabolic age will show you the average age associated with your BMR. If your metabolic age is higher than your actual age, this would indicate that you need to improve your metabolic rate.
Food Intolerances
Coeliac disease is a common and treatable condition in which gluten triggers an immune reaction and chronic inflammation of the small intestine. Research indicates that around 1 in 100 people in the UK are affected by coeliac disease, and around 500,000 people in the UK are yet to be diagnosed. .
Gluten intolerance (Coeliac disease)
Gluten is a protein found in rye, wheat and barley. It is a key ingredient in many staple foods, including flour, bread, pasta, porridge oats, couscous, biscuits and cakes. Common symptoms of coeliac disease include tiredness, bloating, stomach pains, irregular bowel movements, depression and anaemia. Your coeliac test will involve a blood test which will examine the level of the transglutaminase antibody (tTG) in your blood. Put simply, the test will show how your body responds to gluten by examining the antibodies your body produces in response to eating gluten. It is important to note that in order for the test to be effective, you will need to keep gluten in your diet in the weeks preceding your check.
